Great weather, guests and a wide array of cars helped make the 2013 Carlisle GM Nationals the best weekend of its type in many years. Bobby Allison held a non-stop audience for over two hours, Paul Koerner, Dennis Kirban and Andrew Flippone, Jr. hosted seminars and Q&A sessions, while Bruce Larson's Cacklefest drew crowds with each session. Further, Flippone showcased his movie Black Air Saturday night at the Carlisle Theatre.
In addition to the guests, displays included one dedicated to Hi-Po Buicks, Turbo Buicks, the Buick Grand National and the GNX. The showfield hosted nearly 100 years of automotive history with cars ranging from the 1900s to modern day. With just as many cruisers as muscle onsite, guests saw a very impressive snapshot of Detroit's best. A handful of awards were issued too and Sunday concluded with an awards parade. Next year's weekend is June 20-22, 2014. Save the date!
The Blue Gray Chapter and the Deleware Valley Oldsmobile Chapter held a show within a show as we have for many years.
This is our most participated event every year and we had close to 50 Oldsmobile related vehicles shown for the three day event including a Oldsmobile railroad car that served our lives in a different way other than a grocery getter. Our welcome Center was atended by many people some just to drop by and say how much they love Oldsmobiles and others who joined and asked aboout how they could become a part of the OCA and our local chapters.
Rich Saullo President of the Blue Gray Chapter along with Ken Whitcomb Treasurer and Editor were again Carlisle Events Celebrity Judges giving a special award each to the best cars they felt were shown at the nationals. We both enjoyed the Celebrity Lunchon which featured Bobby and Judy Allison along with Bruce Larson and members of the Miller Famlily who run and started the whole Carlisle Experience. Amber our represenitive for the day was gracious in all ways and made us feel like the top of the mark!!
We had the pleasure of showing for the first time ever the 1976 Hurst olds Prototype Car which was to be destroyed after Oldsmobile's decision to not participate in the project in 1976 and 1977 due to the super sales of the Cutlass without the Hurst Model. Member Rick Tice owns the 76-77 prototype and we wish Carlisle had continued with professional judges rather than participant judging which was not a favorite of the show participants. We believe that this will be reversed for next years Nationals with good reason.
The Blue Gray and DVOC had our own awards for best Oldsmobiles in 10 different classes and the pictures to the left show the winners of what we all consider the best Oldsmobiles of Show at the show within a show.
